Calling All Border Collies!
Want to be an integral part of the APDT Annual Educational Conference and Trade Show? Join the "working" Border Collie Team. The Border Collie team helps the conference run smoothly and efficiently. You don't have to be a conference "veteran" either, even if this is your first year, you are welcome to join the team! Becoming part of the Border Collie team is also a great way to make new friends and learn more about other members.
Border Collies help out by checking name badges at session doors, assisting at the workshops, answering questions from attendees, and lots of other jobs that you can choose to help out with. You let us know which sessions, workshops, and/or activities you would like to be assigned.
Working Border Collies that complete at least three assignments will receive a free conference t-shirt as well as a chance to apply for a Conference Staff position at future conferences. In order to be eligible to volunteer as a Border Collie you must be registered for the Conference on the days you volunteer.
What previous Border Collies have told us:
I have been a border collie since I was a conference puppy! Best decision I made at the conference. It helped me come out of my shell and instantly connected me to some amazing people and resources I would never have met or been exposed too. it was an amazing feeling to instantly feel a part of something as a new comer. Jump right in! You won't regret it.

Being a Border Collie gives people the opportunity to meet many new faces and make sure that everyone is having a great time. Just because you're a Border Collie, doesn't mean that you wont get to have fun and enjoy the conference; in my eyes it gives you a better chance at seeing more things as it encourages you to see speakers that you would not think of visiting. Being a Border Collie opens your eyes to an exciting and unique side of the APDT Conference.

Last year was my first year attending the APDT conference and I decided to volunteer as a border collie. I was apprehensive because I'm nervous meeting new people, but I'm so happy I did it. I got to connect with a lot of new people from other areas who shared their experiences and offered guidance to me for my dog training "journey". I made wonderful friends from all over who I still keep in touch with. It was so much fun volunteering with a such a great group of people who always had smiles on their faces and who's enthusiasm is contagious!

Being a Border Collie was a GREAT experience! I wish I had done it years ago! The APDT Conference is always amazing, but the experience is even better as a Border Collie! It's such a great way to be even more involved and to meet even more fabulous people!

When I attended APDT in Spokane, I did not go with a group of friends and only knew a couple of people from the NYC area. Signing up to be a BC gave me a sense of purpose and belonging and helped me to stay engaged throughout the conference. I had a great time and met so many like minded people -very worthwhile!

Being a APDT Border Collie is one of the greatest opportunities you can achieve at the conference. Every year I have attended, I have signed up to be part of the Border Collie Team. This is a great family of dog lovers that will enhance your time at the conference. You will have so much fun at the conference as a border collie and still come away with an awesome learning experience from all the speakers you want to attend. I know I am always feeling like I get more by giving back on the Border Collie team.
